Interactive Room Content: How to Add, Resize, and Delete it

Discover how to add, resize, and delete content and what types of media you can share with your users.

Our platform allows you to share various media, including images, GIFs, PDFs, videos, and external websites. Content can be embedded directly into the platform or added as an interactable (a piece of content that opens when a user clicks on a trigger image).

When you embed content into a Room, it always remains visible to your users.

Conversely, interactable content requires your users to click it. Once clicked, a pop-out containing the content is visible. Interactables are represented by an icon, thus indicating that interactive content is available.

As an Admin, you will see a plus button on the left side of the Actions Bar, located at the bottom of the screen. This is how you can add content.

Anytime you add content, the Edit toggle will activate. This allows you to edit the content like moving it or resizing it. If you want to test the content, select the Edit Toggle off.

Each piece of content added to a room is limited to 10mb in size. If the content exceeds that size, you will see an error message informing you that the content can not be added to the room.

All content added to a room can be viewed in the Storage Panel, opens on the right side of the screen. This is also where you can delete content, which is detailed further down in the article.

Embed Content

Embed a Video Link

To embed a video into a Room:

  1. Copy the URL of the video you want to share

  2. From the Actions Bar click (+) to share media

  3. Select "Video” from the pop-out

  4. Enter or paste the link to your video and click “Share”

    Note: Make sure to use a “watch link”, or the link you would share with someone, not a website URL.

Upload an Image or PDF File

To upload and embed an image (JPG, PNG, GIF), or PDF file into a Room:

  1. Make sure your image is saved on your drive or network

  2. From the Actions Bar click (+) to share media

  3. Select "Image” or “PDF” from the pop-out

  4. Click "Choose File," and select the file you wish to upload and click “Share”

    Note: Content is limited to 10mb

Upload an Image Link

To add and embed a link to an image (JPG, PNG) or GIF into a Room:

  1. Copy the URL of the image you want to share

  2. From the Actions Bar click (+) to share media

  3. Select "Image” from the pop-out

  4. Enter or paste your link and select "Share”

Embed a Website Link

To embed an external website link into a Room:

  1. Copy the URL of the website you want to share

  2. From the Actions Bar click (+) to share media

  3. Select “Link” from the pop-out

  4. Enter or paste the link to your website and click “Share”

Note: The website URL must be embeddable*.

*An embeddable url is the full URL link to a website versus if you copy and paste a hyperlink. For example DoubleALabs is the hyperlink, but https://www.doublealabs.com is the full embeddable URL. Also, only typing in the website and ".com," like doublealabs.com, is not the full URL.

If the URL is not embeddable, you will receive an error message informing you that the site could not be added.

Interactable “Pop-Out” Content

Interactive elements (interactables) have two types of options:

  • Take User to Room: quickly teleport your users to another Room

  • Open Content: users can pop-out (open) and interact with content

For each option, you will need to upload an image or icon. These elements trigger that behavior and indicate they are an interactable.

Take User to a Room

  1. Pick an image or icon you would like to represent that room and ensure it is on your drive or network

  2. From the Actions Bar click (+) to share media

  3. Select “Interact” from the pop-out menu

  4. Next to “Take User to a Room” find your desired Room from the list and select it

  5. Upload your image/icon

Pop-Out Content

There are a variety of options for adding interactable pop-out content.

To utilize any of these features:

  1. From the Actions Bar click (+) to share media

  2. Select “Interact” from the pop-out menu

  3. Next to Open Content” select the type of content you want to add:

    1. Image from upload

    2. Image from URL

    3. Site from URL

    4. Video from URL

    5. Open URL in new tab

  4. Then follow the instructions below

    Note: You can also set one one interactable to automatically open when a user enters the Room. To set this, select the “Open by Default” box that appears when you are prompted to upload your trigger icon.

After selecting the content and trigger image, both items will appear together. You can move and resize the items. Select the Edit toggle to off to test the interactable.

  • Image or PDF from upload: upload the image, GIF, or PDF you want your users to view, then choose the icon you wish to trigger that action.

  • Image or PDF from URL: add a link to the image, GIF, or PDF you want your users to view, then choose the icon you wish to trigger that action.

  • Site from URL: add a link to the external website you want your users to view in the Room, then choose the icon you wish to trigger that action.

    Note: Only embeddable sites will work. Same rules apply as embedding sites notes above.

  • Video from URL: add a link to the video you want your users to watch, then choose the icon you wish to trigger that action.

  • Open URL in new tab: add a link to the external website you want your users to open in a new tab outside the Room, then choose the icon you wish to trigger that action.

How to Move and Resize Your Content

Once you have added content, you can move and resize the item by clicking "Edit Mode" and clicking on the content you want to change. A blue bounding box will appear.

  • Click and drag the content to your desired location.

  • Select a corner or one of the blue squares to resize to your preferred dimensions.

How to Delete Content

You can remove any unwanted content from a Room at any time. There are 2 ways to remove content.

You can delete content by selecting it while Edit is active and then delete on your keyboard.

You can also remove content from the Storage panel.

  1. Click the gear icon on the lower right of your screen

  2. Select "Storage”

  3. Find the content you wish to delete

  4. Click the red trash next to the content to remove it

    You can also remove all content from the room at once by selecting "Clear All"

For interactables, you can delete the trigger icon, and that will also delete the associated content. If you delete the content from storage, you will need to delete the trigger icon by clicking it while in Edit mode and select the delete button on your keyboard.

Tips and help with adding content

Tips for adding an image, GIF, or PDF file

  • Acceptable image files include .png, .jpeg, and .gif

  • Images and PDFs are limited to 10mb per file

  • We recommend 10 pieces of content max in a Room. A user may experience long load times or delay in experiencing content if there are more than that in a Room.

  • GIFs with many frames may take a longer time to upload to a Room. Try compressing or creating a GIF with minimal frames for a faster upload and load time

Tips for adding a video link

  • currently video links from YouTube, Vimeo, and Twitch can be linked into a Room

  • you can use the Watch/Share link from the source to add into a Room or the Embed link. Do not use the embed code.

Tips for embedding or adding a website

  • Make sure the website is embeddable. If you receive an error message or the site doesn't appear correct, then it may not be embeddable. Not all websites can be embedded into a Room.

  • Make sure you enter the full URL, for example, https://www.doublealabs.com is the full embeddable URL

  • Sometimes the website you want to add will only be embeddable if you use the source link from the embed code. This is the link in the middle of the embed code that follows after src= and is in between quotations. For example, in the embed code below, the source link is bolded:

Tips for embedding a Miro or Mural Board

  • Make sure the access is set to Public and anyone with link can view/edit

    To embed a Miro Board:
    1. Click Share

    2. Check the settings of the link is set to Edit if you want users to interact with board, or view if you want

    3. Copy the Board Link - this is the link you will use to add/embed the Miro Board into a room

To embed a Mural Board:

1. Click Share

2. Select the Visitors Option and check that Anyone with the link can at least view (this makes the board public)

3. Select Embed. A new window will open with an Embed link and Embed snippet.

4. Copy the Embed link. The Embed link is what you will use add/embed the Mural Board in a room. Click Done.
